This book is very logically arranged and an easy read. But if you are like me, it will take forever to get through as you pause to think about what you just read. It's very informative and a great start to begin preparing your site to be found in the major search engines.
It begins with teaching you how to design a site with search engine visibility in mind. Section 1 is "Before You Build", which is an overview of search engines, various components, how directories rank your site and then a set of Web Design Rules. You're off to a great start!
Section 2 is "How to Build Better Web Pages". Here you learn the specifics on building great pages. The section deals with keywords, themes, effective title tags, meta tags, languages, drop down menus and much more.
Section 3 is about "Page Design Workarounds" and includes all kinds of special situations and elements in your site. Things such as Flash, Server Side Includes, PDFs and frames. You'll learn how to best handle these objects and more.
Section 4 "After Your Site is Built" goes beyond submitting the site to the search engines. It covers directories, paid submission, file naming and SPAM, to name a few.
The book closes with an awesome glossary and resource appedices.
I highly recommend that if you are serious about optimizing your site for the search engines, that you start with this book (and Search Engine Advertising)!
